Tomo Kumaki (Brown Belt) Rami Foster (Blue Belt)
For the past weeks practices have been going on as usual. Training methods will not be posted on the blog as that is a classified information. We have been incorporating training methods from Travis Stevens.
Husky judo club attended Northwest Collegiate Team Battle Royale Meet @ Eastern Washington University. This is how our coach Dave Christson describes the meet:
“The format of this tournament was for us to fight three lightweight matches (2 men, 1 women’s), 2 medium matches (2 men’s, 1 women’s), and three heavyweight matches (same) against the other schools. No rest period was allowed between individual matches. With our four competitors we covered all but one weight class by having our players fight across weight classes as well as fight back to back matches in the same weight class.
– Artem and Tomo secured wins by wazari and ippon against EWU’s most experienced competitor to keep the score even
– Molly fought up in weight and won in decisive fashion with shimewaza to edge EWU
– Rami was able to pin Montana’s heavyweight and with no rest fought a very tough match against their superheavyweight to match scores with UM
– forfeits in UM’s missing weight classes decided the match.”
Up next we have Seattle Dojo Tournament in South Bellevue Community Center on Saturday, May 5th. Since there are only 3 tournaments left this season, we gotta make all of them. By the way, weight-in is from 9:30 to 11:00 AM on Saturday.
